Southern Knights 26

SOUTHERN Knights couldn't quite hold on to extend their 2020 unbeaten run on Friday night.

And the narrow defeat means that they will face another journey up to Myreside later this month in the Super6 play-offs.

A short time after Mesu Kunavula had given Watsonians the lead, which was converted by Lee Millar, Knights were reduced to 14 players with James Head being yellow-carded.

But rather than lose further ground the visitors managed to level the scores through Iain Moody.

A powerful burst from Ruairidh Knott took the Knights into the lead.

But, in what was becoming a tit-for-tat match, the home team responded through Cal Davies.

With the teams going in level it was all to play for in the second half.

Jason Baggot made up for a couple of first half penalty misses by inch-perfectly kicking wide for Ciaran Whyte to score.

And approaching the hour Fraser Renwick scored the Knights' bonus point try.

Although the Borders side appeared to be well on top, Watsonians hit back through a penalty try after their maul was pulled down.

Grant Shiells was also sent to the sin bin.

Ewan Fox levelled the scores with a late try.

And Millar’s angled conversion gave the home team the victory.
