GALA Fairydean Rovers lost to high flying Tranent Juniors at Netherdae last night.

Former Gala striker Daryl Healy featured in the Tranent starting XI with former Hibs and Hearts striker James Keatings listed amongst the substitutes.

Ex Gala manager Neil Hastings who is now assistant manager at top flight Livingston was an interested spectator.

Gala started on the front foot and Lewis Hall had a long range effort saved.

Danny Galbraith then tried his luck with a long range free-kick but his effort was wide.

The first real chance of the game fell to the visitors following a quickly taken free-kick when Ben Miller fired over from close range, injuring Gala keeper Ruairidh Hall in the process.

Moments later Hall was involved again with a superb save from left winger Adam McGowan.

A mistake in the Gala defence allowed Miller a clear run on goal but once again the Gala keeper was on hand to save from close range.

The visitors eventually took the lead on the hour mark when a shot on goal deflected off Gareth Rodger into the net.

Gala fought back and created a number of chances, the best falling to Lewis Hall who lobbed the keeper only to see his effort cleared off the line.

Rovers also had a penalty claim dismissed before Hall tried his luck with a half volley.

At the other end substitute Martin Maughan struck the bar with a powerful 20-yard strike then with moments remaining Tranent doubled their advantage when keeper Hall misjudged a long range effort and his fumble saw the ball cross the line before being clawed back out.

Gala are back in action on Saturday with a home game against East Stirlingshire.
