GALA Fairydean Rovers left the Forthbank Stadium empty handed despite taking an early lead against the university of Stirling on Saturday.

Galashiels youngster Ciaran Greene captained the side making him the youngest player ever to do so.

Euan McGill and Calum Rae had early chances for the hosts before Gala took the lead in the 14th minute with a superbly taken free-kick from Aiden Cassidy.

Gala continued to press forward but were unable to add to their tally and went in at the break with a one goal lead.

The Stirling manager Chris Geddes made three changes at half time then another two moments later.

The student’s equalised in the 67th minute after Gala keeper Ruairidh Adams failed to deal Jason Jarvis’s cross and the ball was scrambled over the line.

Then moments later a Jarvis free-kick deflected past Adams into the net to secure the three points.

Gala are back in action in the East of Scotland Cup final on Sunday when they face Linlithgow Rose at Ferguson Park in Rosewell.

The full match report with reactions will be in this week’s Border Telegraph.
