THE Lauderdale point to point returned to Mosshouses on Sunday after a four-year absence and the large crowd vindicated the decision to change the date of the event.

The opening race turned out to be a thriller with the grey Darius Des Sources and the odds on favourite Design Plan having the race between them from a long way out.

The grey made all the running until Design Plan headed it at the second last fence and the favourite jumped the last one length ahead but Darius Des Sources put in a low fast jump and landed with momentum and under an inspired ride by Laura Teal got back up to win by half a length. Cooldine Bog finished thirty lengths behind the second in third place.

Race two which was the ladies open provided high drama but unfortunately for the wrong reason.

Okey Dokey and Oscar Wilde jumped the last together and set off up the run in but unfortunately instead of bypassing the fence at the winning line both horses ended up jumping the fence thereby taking the wrong course and were both disqualified leaving Paddling which was well behind the two protagonists at the time to come home alone.

Lucy Brown on Okey Dokey realised the two horses were heading the wrong way but was on the wrong side of Oscar Wilde to be able to recover the situation.

Cuneo in the hands of Lyall Hodgins drew clear from two out in the men’s open to comfortably beat the favourite Shaughnessy, the only other finisher.

Jack Clark’s Cooking Fat led until going inside a marker after the twelfth fence and pulling up and Gripper the only other runner in the race pulled up later in the race.

Unfortunately the owners/trainers conditions race turned out to be a match between Cullin Hills, the leading winning horse (numerically) this season so far in the UK and Jack Clark’s Killer Crow. The long odds on Cullin Hills ran out a facile winner.

Ten of the thirteen entries faced the starter for the maiden race and Duke Account well ridden by John Dawson ran out a five lengths winner from Tobshiba which was sent off favourite and Wassells Young’s So Be It finished third.

Take It Upstairs ran out a very easy winner of the 2 Mile flat race for the Easterbys with It’s Unbelievable and Bridgetjoans occupying the minor places, five lengths and ten lengths behind the winner.
