MOREBATTLE Border Games brought the curtain down on the 2023 Border Games circuit last weekend.

Once again organisers were fortunate with the weather and an excellent afternoon of running was witnessed.

Morebattle hosts the Youths 90m Championship and it was Erin Jackson who showed them all a clean pair of heels and won decisively from Oliver McCraw and Ben Nairn. Erin’s victory also earned her Youths Performance of the day.

A bumper entry of 45 athletes in the Youths 400m resulted in the race being split into 2 races and both provided fantastic finishes with Rory Fleming taking victory in the Backmarkers Race and Bella McNulty in the Frontmarkers.

Rose Davidson did the double by winning the 800m and 1600m races.

In the Adults races John Paxton of Hawick took the honours in the Open 110m. John has been running extremely well lately and this showed in the final breasting the tape in a close finish from Gordon Armstrong and Graeme Armstrong.

It certainly was a day for the Paxton family as John’s son Daniel was victorious in the 400m in a stirring finish from Jason Catterall and Kyle Potts. Daniels performance earned him the Adults Performance of the day.

In the 800m David Priestley was victorious of the front mark from Jason Catterall and Gavin Tait.

Mark Young has had a very successful summer and this continued with a win in the 1600m from Robbie Welsh and Michael Lewis.

A presentation was made to John Mabon, Secretary of Morebattle Border Games. This was John’s 50th year as a committee member and for his dedicated service was presented with a silver salver.
