BORDERS athletes Darrell Hastie and Susan Ridley enjoyed a golden weekend in Glasgow to become Scottish Champions.

Hastie from Kelso, who runs for Gala Harriers, swept aside the opposition to win the Over 35s 3,000 metres title at the Emirates Arena.

And the 36-year-old also set a new age-group record with his time of 8.51.06.

The winner of last year's Jedburgh Half Marathon opened up a clear lead over runner-up Chris Mooney and third-placed Mark Gardener to take victory.

It wasn't quite so easy for Peebles athlete Susan Ridley who only had a couple of metres to spare when breaking the tape of the Women's Over 50s 3,000 metres.

The mum-of-three, who runs for Edinburgh AC, held off the challenge of runner-up Julie Wilson and third-placed Karen Dobbie for the title.

Earlier in the day two-times European indoor champion Laura Muir swept to victory in the Scottish 3000m.

The World Championships finalist recorded a time of 8.37.21 for victory.

Muir's training partner Sol Sweeney took the Men’s gold with a PB of 8.19.03 as he saw off the challenge of visiting Irish athlete, Daniel Mooney and bronze medallist, James Donald.
