Stow made a winning return to the South Cup thanks to a 3-1 win at Ancrum.

The Villagers took a break from the competition last season but are back this year and goals from Pawel Marszalek, Dean Fraser and James Runciman sealed the Stow win, while Stephen Davidson grabbed a late consolation for Ancrum.

Stow manager Fraser Riddell said: "I really pleased with the performance, particularly first half.

"We’re slowly improving each week after what has been a challenging start to the season, however I think we’re still short of two or three players."

Stow face Biggar United in the second round after the Lanarkshire men needed an extra time Sandy Telfer goal to see off lowly Selkirk Victoria.

Division C side Berwick Colts created a cup shock by beating Division B team Duns Amateurs 3-1 at New Hawthorn Park.

Liam Muckle, Jimmy Kantis and Cameron Hope found the net for the English side.

Ross Scott’s double helped Hawick United see off Linton Hotspur 5-2, while last season’s South Cup finalists Hawick Waverley beat fellow Division A side Tweeddale Rovers 3-0 thanks to goals from Dean McColm, Grant Gass and Jordan Yardley.

Kelso Thistle secured a fine extra time win at Law Community, with Liam Hill and Ewan Hutchison on the scoresheet.

The other South Cup tie to involve Borders teams saw Daniel Pattenden and Jordan Wood both score braces for Chirnside United as they beat Coldstream Amateurs 4-1 in the Berwickshire derby.

Gala Hotspur won an extraordinary Division B game at Lauder.

Spurs triumphed 7-6 with Scott Nightingale scoring five and Duncan Kemp two, with Jordan and Hagen Steele both grabbing doubles for Lauder in a 13 goal thriller.

And Leithen Rovers caused an upset by beating Division B table toppers Tweedmouth Amateurs 3-2.

Gala Fairydean Rovers made it five wins in a row with a 5-3 home win over Highfields United. The goals came from Andrew Callow, Kieran Crawford, Andrew Crawford, Lewis Swaney and Liam Howel to leave Gala a point clear at the top of Division C.

And Hawick Legion Rovers hammered Melrose 5-0 at Wilton Lodge Park.
