I HAVE been intrigued with the two stories that have appeared in the Times over the past few weeks about families suffering from overcrowding in Kelty.

I must say that I did not realise that there is such a shortage of four bedroom homes for rent in a village which these days must have a population of over 5000 people or a lot more.

The families in the Times' stories certainly seem to have found themselves falling foul of the Fife Council allocation system.

When you read about their problems it is clear that in a perfect world they would had four bedrooms.

I do not know if this is a situation which has been made worse by Mrs Thatcher's selling off of council homes.

I would imagine that the three and four bedroom homes would have been the houses that would have gone first.

With little or no rented house building in the UK over the past 30 years, and a lot of homes sold it is surely no surprise that there is now a big shortage.

While Fife Council and the Scottish Government are now taking some action there is still going to be a big time lapse between these coming on stream and meeting the needs of communities such as Kelty.

Hopefully these two families will land lucky and something will come up for them in the meantime.

HOUSING WORRY,
