THE number of people in hospital with coronavirus in the Borders has risen by 167% within a fortnight, representing the sharpest increase in Scotland.
According to Scottish Government statistics published today (December 23), there are 32 people in hospital with recently confirmed cases of the virus.
That number is up by 20 compared with the figure on December 9, which was 12.
The 167% rise means that hospital admissions grew faster in the NHS Borders region than anywhere else in Scotland during the last fortnight.

The second biggest rise was seen in Ayrshire and Arran, with hospital admissions growing by 61% between December 9-23.
Hospital admissions dropped in Glasgow and Clyde (11%), Lanarkshire (11%), Grampian (25%) and Tayside (14%).
In Scotland there are now 1,025 people in hospital with the virus.
It typically takes at least two weeks between someone contracting the virus and becoming sick enough to require hospital admission.
