BORDERS bowler Julie Forrest has reached the second round of the open singles at the World Indoor Bowls Championships.
Forrest, from Hawick, beat compatriot Jason Banks in their match yesterday (January 14) at Potters Resort, Norfolk.
Forrest is the only woman to have progressed into the second round of the open event so far – English bowler Ellen Falkner was knocked out by Mervyn King, with Katherine Rednall yet to contest her opening round.

In last year's competition, Forrest was crowned the women's singles champion, and she is also in the running for this title again.
In the previous three World Indoor Bowls Championships, no women qualified for the main draw of the open section.
Forrest's next match will be against sixth seed Greg Harlow on January 21.
