THE Great Borders River Clean recently returned for the first time since March 2020.
Taking place over the weekend of May 15 and 16, the river clean was "a huge success”, with 460 volunteers taking part.
Organiser Tom Rawson, a teacher at St Mary’s School in Melrose, said: “The Great Borders River Clean really holds up a mirror to our special Borders communities.
“Not only does it demonstrate the strength of spirit of our towns and villages when they pull together to tackle a common cause but it also shows where we need to act to treat the natural environment on which we rely fairly and responsibly.”
Mr Rawson, the founder of GreenTweed Eco, said Borderers collected more than 3,000kg of rubbish from the Tweed – including shopping trolleys, mattresses, signposts and a memorial sun dial.
