A BID for a 20-turbine wind farm in Selkirk is now on Scottish Borders Council’s agenda.

A scoping Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for the Brown Rig Wind was among the documents submitted to the authority’s planning department.

The proposed development from SSE Generation Ltd is for the installation of approximately 20 wind turbines with a maximum height to blade in the region of 200 metres and rotor diameter of 162m, on land north of Crookwelcome Cottages.

The closest point from the site’s centre point is the village of Ettrick, approximately 2.6km to the south-west, and the hamlets of Hopehouse, Cacrabank, Crosslee, Newburgh and Gilmanscleuch, located east along the B709 and village of Ettrickbridge.

Once constructed it is anticipated that the proposed 20-turbine windfarm development would have an operational life of 50 years.
