A FORMER Borders bar and restaurant could soon be back on the menu as two family homes.
An application has been submitted to Scottish Borders Council from Hawick-based Labour Relief Limited for the change of use to the former Mayfield Bar in Mayfield Drive, Hawick, to form two three-bedroom homes.
The building is currently vacant and in need of renovation and the plan is to demolish a flat-roofed extension to enable the conversion of the original building into dwellings.
The family-run eatery and watering hole was particularly famous for its Sunday carvery but it closed its doors for the final time in February 2020.

A report from Berwick-upon-Tweed architects Camerons Strachan Yuill said: “The property as existing comprises of a 1-2 storey building. There is also a single storey extension, added in 1997, which is rendered and has a flat roof.
“The proposal seeks to demolish the flat-roofed extension in order to allow conversion of the building into two three-bedroom dwellings. This demolition will allow for better natural lighting and a nicer environment for the renovated spaces within the main building.
“Some of the existing bar car park is to be utilised as a garden space for unit 1, whilst the rest remains as is to provide two parking spaces per dwelling.”
