SCOTTISH Borders Council (SBC) has issued an apology after vehicle breakdowns resulted in recent missed food collections in some areas.

This has largely affected the Galashiels and Tweedbank area but also some parts of Peebles.

A council spokesperson said: “We apologise for the inconvenience this may have caused and ask for your patience in this matter. Please be assured that we are working to bring in replacement vehicles as soon as possible.

“If you experience a missed food waste collection please bring your bin back in. If you run out of space in your food waste bin, unfortunately we must advise you to place any extra food waste in your general waste bin.

“We appreciate that this is not ideal but it ensures residents have a disposal option if they have run out of capacity.”

Locations impacted included Scott Street, Gala Park, Elm Row and Tweed Road in Galashiels on Friday, May 5; Tweedbank and parts of Gala on Monday, May 8 and Caledonian Road, Edderston Road, Young Street and other areas of Peebles on Wednesday, May 10.

If your bin has not been collected as scheduled and is not listed, please report it via SBC’s report a missed collection page.
