GALASHIELS is set to burst with creative energy as the town comes together for Art'n About in Gala, a captivating community arts project delivered by Transform Arts CIC and generously supported by Energise Galashiels Trust.

This initiative aims to infuse creativity and vitality into the heart of the community, offering residents and visitors a diverse range of engaging, free arts activities kicking-off on Saturday September 23 in Bank Street Gardens.

The project features an exciting line-up of events and workshops designed to cater to all ages and backgrounds. Music enthusiasts can look forward to a talented musician visiting local cafes, inviting diners to contribute to new music and songs.

A film maker will collaborate with the local Scout group to craft unique films, while a third artist will work with individuals facing hearing or sensory challenges.

A highlight of Art'n About in Gala will be the ‘Fantastic Feast’ event taking place on Saturday September 23in Bank Street Gardens.

Families are invited to participate in this extraordinary gathering, where they can create fun sculptural fantasy food and take part in music-making workshops.

On many Saturdays, Galashiels will come alive with family-oriented creative activities, and various workshops will be available for adults in diverse town-centre venues.

The artistic creations resulting from these activities will be shared in public spaces throughout the town, promising delightful and thought provoking surprise for all who encounter them.

This remarkable project has received invaluable support from Energise Galashiels Trust through ‘Build a Better Gala,’ multi-year funding from South of Scotland Enterprise and Scottish Borders Council.

The primary objective is to explore fresh ways of enhancing the town centre’s vibrancy, attracting more footfall to local businesses, and bolstering community well-being through active participation.

“The project concept emerged from public consultations held earlier this year, where residents expressed a strong desire for accessible arts workshops, creative interventions, and inclusive activities for all ages,” said Lara Greene who is an artist and director with Transform Arts CIC. “The belief in the transformative power of culture to revive struggling town centres served as a driving force behind Art'n About in Gala."

Halloween Crafting Family Event & Spooky Walk – Saturday 28 October. 10.30am to 2.30pm. Bank Street Gardens, and Galashiels Policies (back-up venue to be confirmed in case of bad weather).

Heartland Markets - Saturdays, 7 October and 4 November. 10am to 1.30pm. Interactive creative activities outside the Tapestry Building and in select shops along Channel Street.
