GALA Fairydean Rovers moved into sixth place in the Lowland League thanks to a comfortable 5-0 victory over Edinburgh University at Peffermill in the capital last night.

Kyle Semple opened the scoring for Gala in the 8th minute, but the students fought back and enjoyed a spell of domination without getting onto the scoresheet.

Gala dominated the second half however and doubled their advantage with a goal from Allan Smith 10-minutes after the restart,

Jack Beaumont effectively ended the game as a contest six minutes later and Semple added his second of the night in the 68th minute.

 

 

And Zander Murray added the icing on the cake with two minutes remaining, scoring his first goal since rejoining the club from Bonnyrigg Rose.

Manager Martin Scott was delighted with his team’s performance.

He said: “We started really well but hit a sticky patch midway through the first-half when Edinburgh Uni were threatening but the second-half was a dominant performance from us.

“Now that everyone is fit and available it’s difficult to select a starting XI at times.

“There is a good togetherness about this squad and they are 100% behind each other.

“That’s only one defeat in nine games and we let the Caledonian Braves game slip away after taking the lead.

“But it will be a tough test on Saturday when Cumbernauld Colts come to Netherdale. They are second top of the table for a reason but it’s good to challenge ourselves against the top teams.”
