ONE of Selkirk Cricket Club’s most loyal and unassuming servants, Chris Highton, found himself in the spotlight in the Philiphaugh clubrooms on Sunday, when he was awarded life membership of the club.

In making the presentation, Selkirk Cricket Club’s president, Neil Gentleman, said Chris had steered the club through some particularly challenging times.

“Chris served as club chairman from 2006-2019, always leading by example and ensuring the club kept its head above water during a period of economic uncertainty.

“Everyone at Philiphaugh owes him a huge debt of gratitude, and this seems the right moment to publicly recognise the massive contribution he has made to Selkirk Cricket Club over many, many years.”

In reply, Chris said he was deeply honoured to accept the award, and paid special tribute to the committee members who had given him such unstinting support throughout his 13-year term of office.

“It has been particularly satisfying to see the colts players from that time come through the ranks and make their mark in the senior side,” he said. “I will continue to support Selkirk Cricket Club in any way I can, and wish it every success in the future.”
