IT is "unclear" when urgent repairs to a Borders road will end, as emergency gas works are ongoing.

As previously reported, Wilton Path in Hawick closed at 2pm this afternoon (Thursday, December 14) due to emergency gas investigation works which were being completed by SGN engineers.

Dan Brown, a spokesperson for the gas network, has now said it is "unclear" when the road will reopen to motorists.

In a statement, Mr Brown, on behalf of SGN, said: "Our engineers are continuing to carry out urgent repairs to our gas network in the Wilton Path area.

"To safely access the affected pipe, we needed to close Wilton Path between Carnarvon Street and Wellington Road this afternoon.

"Southbound motorists should follow our signed diversion via Princes Street, Dovemount Place, Commercial Road and Albert Road.

"Motorists heading northbound should follow our diversion route via Albert Road, Commercial Road, A7, Guthrie Drive, Stirches Rd, Dickson Street and Princes Street.

"It’s unclear how long the road will be shut for, but we’d like to assure the community we’re doing all we can to make these essential repairs as quickly and safely as possible."
