GALA boxers Mason Maycock and Aqeel Aziz were back in action on Sunday afternoon at the Chirnside Boxing Club’s Annual Home Show.

And both recorded victories against tough opponents at the event in Eyemouth Primary School.

Mason started well against Cooper Brown (MacTaggart Scott) and his composure and shot selection were evident as the bout progressed.

His outstanding performance won him the ‘Bout of the Day’ award.

Aqeel took on hometown boxer Jack Grant and his maturity, higher work rate and cleaner shots helped seal a Galashiels double.

Head coach Jim Gow said: “Mason showed why he is Scottish champion today. It was a busy bout but Mason landed the cleaner punches and his opponent got a standing count in the third round and he quite rightly got a second trophy for the best bout of the day.

“Aqeel’s bout with Jack Grant was a cracker. Both were 100 per cent committed to winning but Aqeel came out on top with a mature performance. It will make an interesting bout for our home show in three weeks.”
