GALA Fairydean made it nine points from nine with a hard fought victory over Edinburgh University at Netherdale last night.

Will Antoniuk opened the scoring for the visitors in the 17th minute after dispossession Michael Aitken on the edge of the area and his shot come cross beat Jay Cantley at the far post.

Nicky Reid hit the post as the home side tried to get back into the game.

Then just before the break goal scorer Antoniuk was shown a straight red for a reckless challenge on Aitken just in front of the dugouts.

The second half belonged to Gala who mounted attack after attack but the students' keeper was outstanding form denying Jamie Semple and Reid on several occasions.

Semple thought he had equalised with a header from a corner and although the ball appeared to have crossed the line before being clawed out the referee waved play on.

Just when it looked as though it wasn't going to be Gala's night, they were awarded a penalty when Danny Galbraith's cross from the left was handled by an Edinburgh Uni defender.

And Galbraith made no mistake from the spot, sending the keeper the wrong way with two minutes plus added time left.

Gala continued to push forward but the students looked dangerous on the break.

The winner arrived three minutes into injury time when Alan Smith's cross from the right was headed home from close range by Semple to the delight of the home fans.

The result sees Gala move into ninth place in the Lowland League

The Nil by Mouth man of the match was Liam Watt.
