A LEADING Scottish duo will give a varied concert of both traditional and original compositions designed to delight the audience at Melrose Music Society this week and set toes tapping.

Paul Chamberlain, whose late father Peter Chamberlain was known to many Borderers as a professional violinist, was one of the first students to graduate, with distinction, in classical accordion from the Royal Scottish Conservatoire, Glasgow.

He has performed across the world, including Europe, Russia and the USA and plays for BBC Radio 3, Radio Scotland’s ‘Classics Unwrapped’ and California’s Classical Music Radio Station as well as with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and other orchestras.

Michael Haywood is also from South Scotland, currently teaching music at Earlston High School.

Since gaining a degree in traditional music from Newcastle University, he has appeared in venues across the country as well as on BBC Radio Scotland, and for three years has performed for Live Music Now, formed by Yehudi Menuhin and providing concerts in the UK, Europe and the Middle East.

He is an accomplished performer with several instruments and on Sunday he will play violin, clarinet and saxophone.

Sunday's concert in Melrose Parish Church Hall starts at 2.30pm.

Tickets at the door: £12. Free for accompanied children.
