FANS of film noir are in for a treat as a brand new production from the Owdyado Theatre company pulls into two village halls.

The Penryn-based company's brand new show, A View from the Edge, premiered in Cornwall last week to rave reviews.

And the thrilling stage whodunnit is now heading to the Borders as part of a UK-wide tour.

Private eye and troubled sleeper Charlie Daniels is hired by the seductive Elise Hillerman to investigate the disappearance of her husband –a prominent gallery owner.

Meanwhile, writers Charlotte and Dan struggle to write the script of their new noir-inspired theatre show about an art forgery ring.

As scenes spin, fragment and entangle with each other one question arises: whose reality is real?

A View from the Edge is due to be a slick and surprising show where the search for the truth provokes a mind-bending journey through the world of dreams, imagination and ‘real life’.

With its sharp wit, quick pace and a heavy dose of noir style; the company’s favourite film genre; from the classic to the neo, eagle eyed audience members might also spot that A View from the Edge takes influence from cult filmmakers Charlie Kaufman and David Lynch.

Written by co-artistic directors Charlotte Bister and Daniel Richards, A View from the Edge is a highly original show.

Charlotte told the Border Telegraph: "Our inspiration for A View From the Edge is pretty varied and ranges from classic noir like Double Indemnity, to Charlie Kaufman's 2002 film Adaptation, to an ancient story from the east about blind men and elephants.

"We hope it will keep you guessing until the end!"

Directed by Rosanna Elliott of Canvas Theatre, with music from The People’s String Foundation’s Ben Sutcliffe and movement direction from Freefall Dance’s Grace Sellwood, Owdyado are collaborating with some of Cornwall’s finest creative minds for the tour.

Dan said: "Collaboration with other artists is a big part of 'Owdyado's process. It's the best way to make sure that a project is bigger than the sum of its parts. And the only way to get the ideas out of our heads and polished up by those we respect."

A View from the Edge will be staged at Caddonfoot Hall, inconjunction with Live Borders, on Wednesday, March 8.

And the Owdyado Theatre company will tajke the production to Kirkhope Village Hall in Ettrickbridge on Friday, March 10.
