QUESTION marks have been raised over the future of the newsagents in lower Langlee after the Post Office this morning announced it was moving to the neighbouring Borders Pharmacy.

The new service, which launches at 1pm on Wednesday, December 2 will be provided from an open-plan counter in the store, where the Post Office terminal will sit alongside the till. The new branch will be designed to Post Office guidelines to ensure easy access with adequate space for wheelchair users to move around the store and there will be a hearing loop at the counter.

Residents and small business customers will still be able to access the usual range of Post Office services during the extended opening hours, including Special Delivery, Local Collect, home shopping returns, online banking cash deposits and withdrawals.

Suzanne Richardson, Regional Manager said: “We are making it easier for customers to get their cash, send and collect their mail and do their banking because we know how important these services are to local residents.

She added: “We are confident that this vibrant new-style Post Office at the heart of the local community will meet customer needs. This modernisation is part of a major investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office and will secure services for the future.”

Post Office services will be available during the store’s opening hours, 9am to 5:30pm Monday to Saturday.
