A LORRY driver has been accused of putting other road users at risk after attempting a crazy overtaking manouvere on a snow covered road in the Borders.

A passenger of a car captured the footage on the A68 at Soutra, between Edinburgh and Lauder, this afternoon (Sunday).

The clip, which was captioned "Stupid lorry drivers", appears to show the truck driver passing a car at speed in the face of oncoming traffic.

Scotland has been hit by snow and severe gales as Storm Clodagh arrived from the Atlantic.

The MET office warned the wintry showers and falling temperatures would to lead to icy surfaces, even at low levels.

A spokesperson for Lothian and Borders Police said: "Due to poor weather, we're advising road users to plan their routes in advance. Check the forecast and road closures before setting off. Allow extra time for your journey and let someone know where you are going and what time you expect to get there.

"Drivers are advised to reduce their speed, increase the stopping distance between them and the car in front (which in wet weather should be at least double!), avoid sudden braking/acceleration and use dipped headlights in poor conditions."
