UPHOLDING the Royal Burgh's treasured traditions is top of the 'to do' list for Selkirk's new Honorary Provost, Jake Wheelans.
The security firm director was appointed as the successor to David Anderson last week.
Mr Wheelans, who has been heavily involved with Selkirk Merchant Company since being its Standard Bearer in 1987, told the Border Telegraph that his appointment is an honour.
Mr Wheelans, 65, said: "I am delighted to be appointed as Provost.
"I want to uphold the rich traditions of our town like my esteemed predecessors have done through the ages.
"I also want to maintain the high standards that they have set."
Mr Wheelans, who has been a member of the Common Riding Trust for the past six years, will remain in post for the next three years.
