A PEEBLES-based legal firm which represent cyclists who have been injured in road traffic collisions is backing a 56-year old blind Scot's bid to cycle to all four UK capital cities this summer to raise money for more audio books for readers with sight loss.

The firm -named Cycle Law Scotland- is sponsoring the Scottish leg of Ken Reid's 750-mile tandem journey which will take him from Edinburgh to Glasgow, Belfast, Dublin, Cardiff and finally London.

Throughout the journey, Ken-from East Lothian- will be accompanied by a series of co-pilots. Brenda Mitchell, Cycle Law Scotland's founder, will set off with Ken when he starts his marathon trek from The Mound in Edinburgh on July 29.

Ken hopes to raise £7,500 in aid of the Royal National Institute of Blind People's Talking Books Service.

Brenda, a passionate cyclist herself, said: "We are delighted to be supporting Ken. He has set himself an incredible challenge and we wish him every success with his fundraising. We will be with him to set him on his way in Edinburgh and closely follow his progress as he completes his journey."

Ken, who ran a half marathon in March as part of his fitness training, added: "30 years ago I was told that I was going blind. I had to give up riding my bike, and reading books. I now ride a tandem and read audio books. They come together, when I ride 750 miles in aid of RNIB's Talking Book Service, which has changed my life.

"I'm extremely grateful for the backing of Cycle Law Scotland for this stage of my challenge. Such positive support to the venture will be a huge boost to my confidence as I roll out of Edinburgh on July 29, along with any other cyclists who can manage along.”
