OFFICERS in the Scottish Borders are highlighting the need for residents to be extra vigilant following reports of two thefts over the weekend.
Two residential properties were targeted in Melrose and Innerleithen whilst residents where still at home.
The first incident happened between 2pm - 2.50pm on Saturday at a property in Darnick Vale, Melrose, where a wallet was stolen.
The second incident happened between 7pm on Saturday and 11am on Sunday. A laptop was stolen from a house on Montgomery Square, Innerleithen.
Inspector Tony Hodges, of Newton St.Boswells, said: "With the warmer weather now upon us, residents should be vigilant when out in gardens or within their homes not to leave external doors open or unlocked.
“As can be seen from this weekend’s incidents, it’s fairly simple to slip into an insecure property and make off undetected with stolen items without the residents being aware.
“Keeping your house, vehicles, garage and outbuildings secure at all times prevents this type of opportunist theft.”
