TWO men have been arrested in Galashiels and charged with supplying class A drugs.

Police raided two houses in the town as part of Operation Gatekeeper.

The intelligence-led search on Wednesday uncovered dealer quantities of diamorphine with an estimated street value of £4900.

The men, aged 50 and 51-years-old, have been arrested under the misuse of drugs act and are expected to appear before Selkirk Sheriff Court today.

Chief Inspector Andy McLean said: "This significant drugs recovery marks the latest success for Operation Gatekeeper, which since its launch, has actively targeted those responsible for the production and distribution of illegal substances.

"All reports of drug activity are taken seriously and anyone who comes forward with information can be assured that it will be acted upon and with appropriate discretion."

Anyone who has information regarding drug dealing in the Borders is asked to contact Police Scotland.

Chief Inspector McLean added: "If you have information relating to offences of this nature in your area then please contact Police Scotland on 101 or make an anonymous report to the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
