TWO drivers were rushed to hospital on Saturday following a crash on the A7 near Hawick.

A blue Land Rover and a silver Fiat Seicento collided at the junction of Appletreehall at 11.45am.

It is understood the Land Rover Defender was turning right when it crashed into the south-bound Fiat.

Both drivers were taken by ambulance to the Borders General Hospital.

The 34-year-old driver of the Fiat suffered "life-changing" injuries.

The 86-year-old driver of the Discovery suffered minor injuries.

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Sergeant Andy Gibb said: “Our inquiries into this collision are at an early stage and we would welcome information from any members of the public who witnessed this collision or who saw either the silver Fiat Siecento or the Land Rover Defender before the collision happened at 11.45 am.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact us on 101.”
