DETECTIVES have released a CCTV image of the 85-year-old woman who was mugged in Galashiels earlier this month.

The pensioner was attacked and robbed as she walked along Croft Street at around noon on Saturday, September 10.

The woman suffered serious injuries and required hospital treatment.

Despite extensive enquiries and searches around the area, police have yet to snare the thug.

Detectives today released an image showing the lady's cream shoulder bag, which has not yet been recovered.

Detective Constable Elizabeth Miller said: "I would urge anyone with information about this bag to contact the police.

"They may have seen someone with the bag or noticed the bag discarded somewhere.

"I am also keen to speak to a male described as being of average height and slim build wearing a grey hooded top and jogging bottoms seen in the Croft Street area on September 10 and I ask anyone with information about his identity to come forward."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101.

Alternatively an anonymous report can be made through the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
