LOCAL rugby legend Rob Moffat has revealed how a simple test saved his life.
The former Melrose, Scotland A, Glasgow Warriors and Edinburgh head coach was diagnosed with bowel cancer after taking a routine test.
And the early diagnosis allowed the secondary school teacher to undergo successful surgery at Borders General Hospital.
Now Rob, who is currently coaching the Romanian national side, is pushing for others to take the simple screening tests which are regularly posted to over 50s.
He said: "Rob said: "I was lucky that the cancer was picked up early through the test.
"When it comes through the post - don't hesitate - send the sample in."
Rob is hoping a campaign dinner in Gattonside next month will raise further awareness of Bowel Cancer UK's screening.
The Use Your Loaf charity dinner being held at Seasons Restaurant.
And ever penny raised will go to MacMillan Centre at Borders General Hospital.
Roger Mckie of Seasons said: “We are delighted that the event is complete sell out.
"We are looking forward to a very successful night and delighted all proceeds for the event will go to the cancer department at the BGH who looked after Rob so admirably.”
The dinner on December 2 has already sold out.
