A GALASHIELS man who breached his home curfew and struggled violently with two police officers has been locked up for Christmas.

Twenty one year old Jordan Cunningham appeared from custody at Selkirk Sheriff Court and pleaded guilty to the offences which happened on Saturday evening.

The court was told police received a call around 8pm to say Cunningham was within the Bridge Inn public house in Island Street - breaching his home curfew.

When officers attended Cunningham tried to hide behind the bar and then struggled violently with the officers kicking out with his legs.

Depute fiscal Tony Bonnar said that during the course of the struggle Cunningham managed to evade the officers and ran off.

He added that the male and female officers suffered scratches and bruises during the incident. He said: "They gave chased but were not able to catch him."

Cunningham handed himself in at midnight the following day - around midnight on the Sunday.

Defence lawyer Ed Hulme said Cunningham suffered from ADHD and had volunteered to work in the pub collecting glasses.

He had lost the keys to his Church Square home and had stayed in the pub looking for them.

Mr Hulme added: "He panicked when the police arrived. He is sorry for what happened."

Calling for background reports, Sheriff Derrick McIntyre told Cunningham he was on bail at the time of the offence and said he would be remanded in custody until January 5.

Cunningham is also due to stand trial on that date of engaging in a course of conduct likely to cause a named female fear and alarm at a house in Wood Street and elsewhere in Galashiels between August 12 and October 1.
