A GALASHIELS building merchants have supplied support to the Rowan Boland Memorial Trust.

MKM Building Supplies handed over £416 to the Trust from a series of fundraising events held around the opening of their new branch at Netherdale Industrial Estate in November last year.

And the staff of the Galashiels branch aim to raise further money for the Borders charity throughout 2017.

MKM Building Supplies’ Galashiels branch director Bob Hogarth said: “MKM aims to support local causes and we decided to choose the Rowan Boland Memorial Trust as our nominated charity.

“I already knew the Trust’s chairman David Boland and the work that the charity does, so it was an easy decision to support them.

“Our staff and customers helped us raise the money through a raffle and other fundraising events held during the branch’s opening fortnight.

“This is just the start and we will be supporting the Trust throughout the rest of the year.”

David Boland added: “We were delighted that the Galashiels branch of MKM Building Supplies has chosen us as their nominated charity, and hope this is the start of a long association between the Trust and MKM.”

Meanwhile, three more aspiring young Borderers have been handed grants from the Trust.

Scotland age-group hockey players Holly Shepherd and Rhona Gowans, both from Galashiels, received £500 each, while judo player David Fotheringham of Berwickshire village Foulden picked up £350.
