THE relaunched Friends of Gala Policies group has revealed its plans to improve the site.

At last week’s Galashiels Community Council meeting, chairman of the organisation Jason Curran explained his vision for the community woodland and has also made an appeal for new members through the Border Telegraph.

The land has been popular with walkers over the years and Mr Curran hopes to be able to attract more people to the area and wants to help with the upkeep.

He told us: “The group is looking to help promote, improve and work with Scottish Borders Council with what is a public-owned asset and designated community woodland.

“It is hoped that the group can tie in with the excellent work of the council, and Energise Galashiels and Galashiels Community Council in regenerating the town.

“Suggestions we have for improving the site are annual checks to the New Gala House site for landslip; ending sewage going into the stream; new gravel on the paths network and the removal of the broken Victorian railings.

“There are further ideas we will be looking at to explore with voluntary bodies in the town. We ask all members of the public using the woods to please do their bit in taking litter home throughout the year.
