TRANSPORT police are stepping up the search for two passengers who upset and frightened passengers on the Borders Railway earlier this month.

The pair were on the 9.53pm Edinburgh Waverley-to-Tweedbank train on Friday, May 19.

During the course of the journey they acted in a threatening manner towards other passengers and made inappropriate sexual remarks towards women in the carriage.

Detective Constable Thomas Griffin said: "Two men who were travelling on the train were acting in a threatening and aggressive manner, shouting and swearing and making inappropriate sexual comments towards female passengers.

"Both offenders alighted at Galashiels Railway Station.

"Would like to speak to anyone who was on board the train and saw or heard what happened."

The first offender is white, around 30 years old, with a large build, dark hair which was shaved at the sides and back. He was wearing a black and grey t-shirt, black jogging bottoms and white trainers.

He spoke with a local accent.

The second offender is white, around 25 years old, 5ft 8ins tall with a tattoo on his neck.

He has short brown hair and was wearing a beige anorak and jeans. He also spoke with a local accent.
