THE fun and frolics of Innerleithen’s fancy dress parade came with a serious message from one competitor.
Angela Pichlmayer picked a topical theme for her float this year, echoing the call to save the town’s Post Office.
And her attempt to deliver a message highlighting the lack of a full-time postal service in the town did not go unnoticed by judges – who awarded her first place in the motorised float category.
It follows the closure in February of the full-time concession at Daymart Newsagents and the Post Office’s controversial decision to replace it with a Friday morning mobile service operated outside Innerleithen Parish Church, on Leithen Road, between 9.30am and 1pm. As previously reported in the Peeblesshire News, any local businesses interested in taking on a permanent Post Office provision in Innerleithen should visit the ‘Contact us’ page at www.postofficeviews.co.uk. Enquires can also be made via email to comments@postoffice.co.uk, or by calling the customer helpline on 03457 22 33 44.
