AN eight-bedroom mansion built for a Galashiels mill-owner more than a century ago is up for sale.
Maplehurst, which has been run as a boutique guest house for the past three years by owner Peter Gruber, is on the market with a guide price of £975,000.
Set in 1.3acres of gardens in the town’s Abbotsford Road, it was built in 1906 by the local firm of J & J Hall for Huddersfield Street mill owner Andrew Fairgrieve.
And it still boasts many of its original features - including tapestries, oak panelling and stained glass windows – all considered fine examples of the Scottish Arts and Crafts style.
Maplehurst is one of several fine mansion properties which were built in and around Galashiels during the height of the textiles industry.
In addition to eight en-suite bedrooms, the four-level property also includes a reception hall, morning room, drawing room, kitchen and dining room.
Maplehurst is being sold by Macpherson Property in Melrose (01896 820226).
