MELROSE is the best place to live in Scotland.
That is according to a Sunday Times survey.
Every year the newspaper publishes its Best Places to Live in Britain list, as well as selecting the top ten towns and cities in Scotland.
And this year Melrose has come out on top.
A spokesperson for the Times said: "Melrose made the list last year, but is now judged the Best Place to Live in Scotland: it’s a country classic, with a beautiful setting in the Eildon Hills, a dramatic ruined abbey and a handsome town centre of stone and pristine whitewash.
"For a town of just 1,700 people, there’s a huge selection of restaurants and shops, including a bakery spanning five generations, two great butchers, a fishmonger, a greengrocer, a deli and a wine shop.
"While popular with tourists, Melrose is certainly not just for coach parties. There are great schools, including Earlston High, which was hailed by The Sunday Times Parent Power guide as one of the best Scottish state secondaries, with a leading role for drama."
