A 54-YEAR-OLD man has died in hospital after a two-vehicle crash on the A68 on Monday afternoon.
The accident, which happened south of Earlston, near to the Ravenswood roundabout soon after 4pm, involved a silver Kia and a black Fiat.
Police and the Scottish Ambulance Service were soon on the scene, but the man died shortly after arriving at the Royal Infirmary in Edinburgh.
A woman in her forties was also taken to the hospital with serious, but not life-threatening injuries.
The road was closed for seven hours on Monday evening while accident investigation work was carried out.
It re-opened to traffic in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
Police Scotland have launched an appeal for anyone who witnessed the incident or has information about it to get in touch.
Anyone with information is urged to report it by calling 101.
