PUPILS from across the Borders were given a glimpse of life in the workplace last week at an event in Kelso.

DYW Borders, working with Scottish Borders Council and Borders College, hosted the day of activity and celebration.

The showcase event, that brought together representatives from education and industry, was an opportunity for pupils to experience life away from academia.

Over the past 18 months around 8,000 pupils have been given inspiration about careers during events, work placements and site visits.

And last week's event was an opportunity to reflect on some of the success stories as well as provide plenty food for thought for the attending pupils.

Keynote speaker during the celebration was Scottish Borders Council's director of children and young people Donna Manson.

Anthony Barlow, chairman of the DYW Borders group, is looking ahead to what is next for the development of the region’s young workforce.

He said: “The career focused strategic partnerships that are now in place are delivering a level of cooperation between employers and education that is second to none and something we should all be very proud of.

"We can look forwards knowing that we are working in unison to ensure the young of our region are inspired to be the best they can be.

"I would like to thank all those who are involved in what is, and will continue to be, a wonderful success story for the Scottish Borders.”

Over 200 organisations, from the public, private and third sector, have been involved in offering assistance to the project.
