A 42-YEAR-OLD man who assaulted two retails workers during the course of their employment within the space of six months has been jailed for one year at Jedburgh Sheriff Court.

Paul Madden pleaded guilty to stealing a quantity of toiletries from Boots in High Street, Hawick, on April 24 and pushing a male employee on the body when challenged.

He appeared from custody and admitted another offence, this time at Spar in Lothian Road, Jedburgh, on Sunday by threatening a female employee with violence.

Madden pleaded guilty to two other charges of breaching a non-harassment order in Grieve Avenue, Jedburgh on Sunday by acting aggressively towards a man he was banned from contacting and also breaching a court order which had barred him from drinking alcohol.

Madden failed a breath test at Hawick Police Station on Sunday.

He was sentenced to six months imprisonment on both complaints to run consecutively.

In addition, non-harassment orders were imposed preventing him from having any contact with both store employees for two years.

Madden, formerly of Eastfield Road, Hawick, and whose latest address was given as Blair Avenue in Jedburgh, was also banned from entering Boots in Hawick and the Spar shop in Jedburgh for the next two years.
