A MAN covered the interior of his home in lighter fluid during a major disturbance in Jedburgh, which saw armed police surround a property in the town’s Grieve Avenue.

Several emergency vehicles sealed off the residential street during the stand-off on September 17.

Adam Redpath appeared at Jedburgh Sheriff Court on his birthday and admitted acting in an aggressive and threatening manner when he appeared from custody at Jedburgh Sheriff Court.

As well as making offensive remarks and threatening to harm people, the court heard the 22-year-old attended at an open window in possession of a knife and cut himself.

Defence lawyer Ross Dow, said his client has mental health issues and his behaviour had been a “cry for help”.

Sentence has been deferred until next month for background reports, and Redpath was released on bail meantime.

He must stay at a property in Glendinning Terrace, Galashiels, between the hours of 7pm and 7am.
