A HAWICK man who admitted possessing indecent images of children has had his name placed on the sex offenders register.

Police officers visited Stuart Barnes' Crailing Court home on the morning of March 11, 2021, and on inspecting a mobile phone found images of a child between five and eight years old.

More indecent images were found on other devices.

Barnes – who had a previous conviction for possessing around 1,000 indecent images of children – had sentence deferred at Selkirk Sheriff Court until March 4.

Sheriff Peter Paterson said he needed to know the number of images and what categories they were in before sentencing.

Meanwhile, Barnes has been made subject to the notification requirements of the Sexual Offences Act – the length of which will be confirmed when he is sentenced.
