A SECTION of the A7 in Hawick will close temporarily to allow for resurfacing works later this month.

BEAR Scotland is set to resurface 105 metres of the main road and apply new markings at Buccleuch Road on Monday, March 25.

On March 25 the A7 will be closed from 8.30pm until 6.30am in both directions between North Bridge Roundabout in Hawick and the junction of the A7 and B720 near Canonbie.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “These works will improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists travelling along this stretch of the A7 in Hawick.

“We’re grateful to road users and the local community for their patience and understanding while we complete these improvements.”

A diversion route for trunk road traffic will be signposted from North Bridge Roundabout to the junction of the A7 and B7201, via the A6088, Bonchester Bridge and the B6357. Adding approximately 67 miles and an additional hour and 45 minutes to journeys.

On the night of Tuesday, March 26, the works will take place under temporary traffic lights with one lane running at the works area and no diversion required.

The resurfacing immediately follows currently ongoing works to widen the adjacent footway, complete civil engineering works for a new pedestrian crossing and improve the local carriageway drainage system.
