GETTING to the Borders this weekend for the Melrose Sevens will be easier as ScotRail confirms it will provide additional carriages for rugby fans.

Last month the rail operator announced it would provide an additional service at 7.52pm on Saturday, April 13 to "ensure the convenience of spectators".

Today, however, ScotRail has shared that services throughout Saturday between Edinburgh and Tweedbank will benefit from extra carriages.

ScotRail is also encouraging customers heading to The Greenyards, home of Melrose Rugby Club, on Saturday to plan ahead, book their tickets in advance, and give themselves plenty of time to arrive in the Borders ahead of the tournament.

David Ross, ScotRail Communications Director, said:  “We’re looking forward to helping rugby fans travel to and from the Melrose Sevens this weekend.

“To help everyone’s journey run smoothly, we’re adding extra carriages to trains between Edinburgh and Tweedbank throughout the day.

“Customers should plan ahead and check their journey before they leave the house as we’ve made some changes to train times to better support the event.

“We’re also asking fans to leave extra time for travel and to buy their return tickets for travel in advance.”

Melrose Sevens, a world renowned tournament, will take place between 10.30am and 7.30pm on Saturday.

Tickets for Borders services between Tweedbank and Edinburgh can be bought through the ScotRail app.

In addition to the extra carriages and evening service, ScotRail will provide additional staff to help customers during the course of their journey.

The rail service is also reminding customers that the carrying and consumption of alcohol is prohibited on ScotRail trains and in ScotRail stations.
