FINE displays of cut flowers including Dahlias, Chrysanthemums and Begonias were just some of the highlights at this year’s Earlston Flower Show.

This year’s event took place at Earlston Primary School Hall on Saturday and was well supported by both spectators and exhibitors, with some even travelling from as far as Newcastle to attend.

The vegetable classes were keenly contested this year, with fine displays of carrots, onions and leeks. In the Industrial and photographic sections, the high standard of entries again caused the Judges much deliberation.

The children from all classes of Earlston Primary School also excelled in producing a display of fine Handwriting and Coloured Drawings, which brightened the hall.

Prizes were presented by the Mrs Trish Grierson (Earlston) who congratulated exhibitors and reminisced on her long association with the Society, as both a committee member and exhibitor, before receiving a basket of flowers presented on behalf of the society by Miss Hazel Milligan.

The Chairman, Mr George Goodfellow, thanked both exhibitors and the public for their support, while appealing for more local residents to “have a go” at exhibiting to ensure the future of the show.
