POLICE in the Scottish Borders are appealing for witnesses following two separate thefts from work vans in Morebattle.

The first incident happened overnight between Monday 29th and Tuesday 30th October where a STIHL 410 power saw was taken from inside a Ford Ranger pick-up truck, which had been parked up for the evening.

The saw is worth around £1000.

Officers are also investigating another theft where laser equipment was stolen from a van similarly parked for the evening.

The equipment, which was taken sometime overnight between Wednesday 6th and Thursday 7th November, is valued at £3500 and anyone who remembers seeing anything suspicious within the village or surrounding roads is asked to come forward.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "The items stolen during both incidents are essential to the workmen and we are keen to trace and return these tools as soon as possible.

"Anyone with information that can assist us in tracing those responsible should contact police immediately." Those with information can contact Police Scotland on 101 or alternatively, the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
