BORDERS Police are looking to speak to a female good samaritan who stopped to help an elderly woman in Galashiels last weekend.

The force have managed managed to trace a man who ran after the offender - but now need to contact a woman who stopped and helped but left when the ambulance service arrived.

DC Lizzie Miller is part of the investigation team, she said: "This woman is a significant witness and may have information that could help us identify the man responsible.

"She is described as an older woman, wearing dark clothing and possibly glasses. If this is you, or you know who she is, please get in contact as soon as possible."

The 85-year-old woman was pushed to the ground as she walked between Croft Street and Greenbank Street at midday on Saturday, September 10.

She suffered serious injuries and the man who assaulted her took her beige handbag and ran off towards a parking area nearby.
