REMEMBRANCE Day was one not to forget for a young Galashiels cadet.

Cadet Jade McRitchie, who is part of the Minden Company, Lothian and Borders Army Cadet Force, became the first honorary Standard Bearer of the Galashiels Royal British Legion.

And she carried out her duties throughout Sunday's parade and ceremony with perfection.

Dave Hartley, ex Chairman and current President of Galashiels Royal British Legion, had been instructing Jade each week on the finer arts of banner drill in the lead up to Remembrance Day.

And on the Wednesday ahead of the parade she was presented with a badge to be attached to her standard bearer leather holder.

The presentation was to recognise the effort and hard work Jade has put into learning Banner Drill.

Colour Sergeant Gavin Bell, Detachment Commander for 8Pl Galashiels, told the Border Telegraph: β€œIt is an honour for Cadet McRitchie to have been awarded in such a highly regarded manner and I am immensely proud that her hard work, dedication and enthusiasm has resulted in the presentation of this well deserved award.

"It shows all cadets that by working hard and trying their best they can achieve recognition in areas unavailable elsewhere.”

The Galashiels Cadets are always looking for new members.

Anyone between 12 and18 with an interest in spending their spare time in activities where you might get muddy, make new friends that become family, and have something to add to your CV can attend each Wednesday evening between 7pm and 9pm at TA Complex on Paton Street.
