Braw Lad Ryan Mania and Braw Lass Nicola Mackay led the festivities this year.

It culminated with a ceremonial ride around the town which concluded with the dipping of the Burgh Flag at the war memorial on Saturday.

For full coverage of the Braw Lads' Gathering pick up a copy of next week's Border Telegraph - in shops from Wednesday, July 4.

I seem to remember one of our local councillors recently accusing the residents of Galashiels of lacking civic pride... yesterday was absolute proof that's not the case, DESPITE the very council Bill Herd represents leaving our beautiful town looking like a bomb site for the benefit of an unwanted, overbudget maze they are calling an 'inner relief road' which only serves one purpose - to send all Gala traffic right to the front doors of ASDA and Tesco! Not to mention the completely unnecessary and poorly designed fiasco in Market Square! Add to that the lack of traffic management provided by L&B Police yesterday (perhaps they should've spent more time directing traffic and less time swanning about on fancy quad bikes and unmarked police cars and we wouldn't have ended up with cars in the middle of the cavalcade and parked all along Scott Street!) and I, for one, think the Braw Lads Gathering Exec (and all their helpers; family, friends etc.), the Ex Braw Lads & Lasses assoc. and the 6 principals deserve a huge pat on the back for overcoming all challenges and putting on yet another great gathering week! Well done folks!
